Bio

Lynn Ellis is a fine art photographer living and working in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. Lynn has been photographing for over 40 years; she fell in love with photography after witnessing the joy her father felt as he photographed her as a young child. She lost her father at 22 years of age and it was at that time when she purchased her first single lens reflex camera and began making images, perhaps as a homage to him.

Lynn received her Master of Fine Arts from Maine Media College in Rockport, Maine, USA, in May of 2019. She has shown her work both locally and internationally. She recently won Honourable Mention in the World Gala Julia Margaret Cameron Awards this past month and would be been showing in Barcelona but for Covid-19.

Lynn spent most of her adult years on Cape Breton Island as its only periodontist. She was a busy professional and mother but always found time for her beloved photography. Her passion was reignited in 2009 with the fledging of her daughter, she began to travel and take workshops which took her all over the world. One of these workshops, in Rockport Maine with Cig Harvey, led her to pursue her MFA.

Upon graduation, her thesis show was hung in the Lunenburg School of the Arts.

She makes images that express memory, gender, trauma and the sublime landscapes of her South Shore home.
